Privacy & GDPR

How we handle data, in plain language.

Who we are

open-telemetry.net is operated by Open Telemetry Analytics Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (no. 19846327) and based in London.

What this website collects

This marketing website sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Our network provider, Cloudflare, proxies all traffic and therefore processes request data (including IP addresses) on our behalf. Our own web server keeps access logs, including the visitor IP address, for 14 days for security and abuse prevention, then deletes them.

What the service collects for customers

On behalf of our customers we process page views, performance timings, device and browser class, country and ad measurements. The visitor IP address is used for country lookup and appears in server access logs for up to 14 days; it is not stored with measurement data. No cross-site identifiers are created and no cookies are set.

Roles

For customer data, the customer is the controller and we are the processor. See our Data Processing Agreement summary at /dpa.

Legal bases

Website and service logs: our legitimate interest in securing and operating the service (Art. 6(1)(f)). Customer account and billing data: performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) and legal obligations (Art. 6(1)(c)). For measurement data, the lawful basis is determined by the customer as controller.

Retention

Server access logs: 14 days. Measurement data: as configured by each customer per site (default 6 to 24 months depending on plan), then deleted. Account and invoicing records: 6 years, as required by UK tax law. Data deletion requests are completed within 30 days.

International transfers

Measurement data stays in the region chosen by the customer (London or Frankfurt). Cloudflare may process request data globally under its data processing terms and standard contractual clauses.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR and EU GDPR you may request access, correction, erasure, restriction and portability, and object to processing. For data collected on a customer's site, contact that site first. You may also write to us, and you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
